On December 12, the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, VA Maine, and Maine’s Vet Centers will host a first-in-the-nation Summit on Veteran Suicide Prevention. Thomas Bowman, the Deputy Secretary for the US Department of Veterans Affairs will deliver the keynote address, with follow on discussions regarding community resources for suicide prevention and eliminating barriers to care. Some topline info:
– Nearly 10% of Maine’s population are veterans
– Maine is outpacing the nation in veteran suicide, so our need to come together to address this issue is critical
– The event is free
