In early March, The Summit Project partnered with the University of Southern Maine to bring our Honor Display Case to their campus. Students, faculty and staff carried the stories and stones of our fallen heroes (many with USM ties) all through Portland and then took a “commission” to stand watch over their memories and our Honor Display case. The event was a huge success and yesterday we received this note —
“Each year students, staff and faculty make the decision to go above and beyond the normal expectations and become involved in the USM community outside of the traditional classroom setting. As you know, involvement in campus life happens in many different ways. Whether it is inside the classroom, in department offices, on the athletic field, in the greater community, in our campus centers, in the residence halls or any other place at USM, this commitment to making USM a better place is something that is greatly valued and appreciated.
An event you were involved with at USM has made a tremendous impact. Several people within your area have thought so highly of this event and your efforts that they nominated “The Summit Project at USM” for the USM Outstanding Event of the Year Award. This is a great honor and speaks very highly of the work you and your group have done for the USM community. The awards selection process is complete and I am happy to inform you that “The Summit Project at USM” has been selected as the 2015 recipient of this award. Congratulations!”
TSP is honored and humbled to receive this award. We recognize that outstanding events happen everyday at USM where students, faculty and staff all achieve their goals to help improve our communities. For TSP at USM, We congratulate all those involved and thank them for the work that went into this event. It is truly a testament to the dedication and compassion of our TSP family in Maine. THANK YOU. MHANF.
