The Summit Project Partners with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine for a tribute march and stone ceremony at the South Portland Clubhouse
South Portland, Maine – The Summit Project (TSP) will conduct a tribute march on February 27th, hosted by Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s South Portland Clubhouse. The Summit Project is a Maine-based nonprofit whose mission is to recognize and honor Maine Veterans who have passed away since September 11, 2001. Families of these fallen heroes have unearthed and donated a special memorial stone that uniquely represents their loved one. TSP engraves the stones and then carries these tribute stones and their stories on treks throughout Maine and across the world.
At 9:00am on Saturday, Feb. 27th, Club members and friends will take a two-hour hike with the commemorative stones around South Portland, led by Unit Director Raymond Ruby. They will stop at the South Portland Veterans Monument in Mill Creek for a sharing circle where they will take turns sharing what they have learned about the individual fallen soldiers.
At 11:00am at Boys & Girls Clubs’ South Portland Clubhouse, located at 169 Broadway, a ribbon cutting ceremony of The Summit Project Memorial display will take place. After brief remarks, members and volunteers will place their stones in a display case that will be showcased at the South Portland Clubhouse for one month.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is open to all community members, and refreshments will be served. Please join us at 11:00am at Boys & Girls Clubs’ South Portland Clubhouse, 169 Broadway.
